A grade is a starting point

Never Worn, Excellent, Very Good and Good are the condition options used in the Iconic Bag’s listings. Labels help you compare, but they should not replace the written description and photographs. Condition vocabulary also varies between sellers; the same word may not describe the same level of wear elsewhere.

Decide which imperfections you can comfortably live with. Light wear on a base may be unimportant to one buyer, while a mark on a handle or a softened shape may be a deal-breaker for another. The point is not to chase perfection blindly, but to know what you are buying.

Follow the places that do the work

Start with corners and the base, then handles, strap attachments and edges. These are useful places to look for rubbing, darkening, cracking or changes in finish. Examine how the bag stands and whether its shape meets your expectations.

Check the closure and hardware. Ask whether zips, clasps and adjustable straps operate correctly. A close photograph of a clasp can show surface wear, but only a functional check answers whether it closes securely.

The inside deserves equal attention

Request clear views of the lining, pockets and interior seams. Stains, odour and deterioration may be difficult to judge from an exterior image. Ask direct questions rather than relying on a polished front photograph.

Look for disclosure of repairs, recolouring or replaced components. A repair is not automatically a reason to reject a bag, but the type and extent of work can affect appearance, care requirements and your preference. Uncertainty is a reason to enquire, not a reason to guess.

Separate wear from authenticity

A worn handbag can be genuine; a pristine-looking one can be inauthentic. These are separate assessments. The Iconic Bag’s lifetime guarantee concerns authenticity, not ordinary wear or accidental damage after purchase.

Compare the condition notes with the price, intended use and applicable returns terms. Keep a copy of the listing. The right bag is one whose disclosed condition you understand—not one you have persuaded yourself not to inspect.
