Authenticity is a whole-bag question.
Why a receipt, serial identifier or perfect-looking logo is never the entire story when buying pre-owned.

There is no magic detail
Authenticating a pre-owned designer handbag means considering how its details work together. A serial identifier, receipt or familiar logo may support an assessment, but none is a universal certificate of authenticity. Documentation can be incomplete; genuine bags can also lose their accessories over time.
A checklist is useful for organising questions, not for declaring a bag genuine from a single photograph. The most important starting point is context: the house, model, period and construction expected for that particular bag.
Read the maker’s quiet signatures
Marks and stamps are examined for typography, placement, execution and consistency with the model and period. Expectations vary across houses and eras. A feature that belongs on one generation may be absent on another, so applying a universal rule is a poor substitute for informed comparison.
Leather, lining and structure belong in the same assessment. Texture and finish should make sense alongside the silhouette and the other materials. A photograph can reveal useful detail but cannot fully convey the feel, weight or behaviour of a bag.
Construction has a conversation
Stitching, seams, edge finishing, closures and hardware should be assessed together. We look at tension, alignment, wear and the way the bag functions, rather than treating a single stitch count or a particular metal colour as decisive.
Repairs and replaced components also matter. They can change the appearance of a genuine bag and must be understood in context. Ask whether alterations have been disclosed and whether the assessment includes the whole bag rather than only an identifier.
Confidence needs a clear promise
The Iconic Bag’s process is an in-person examination of the whole bag, followed by a separate condition assessment. We are an independent pre-owned boutique, not an authorised dealer for the houses.
Our lifetime authenticity guarantee means a full purchase-price refund if a bag we sold proves inauthentic. Keep your purchase details and contact us through Enquiries if a concern arises. For the complete process and the scope of the guarantee, read Provenance before choosing your bag.
